A Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) is a water recycling system that utilizes various filters to maintain excellent water quality and prevent diseases commonly found in traditional aquaculture practices. In Norway, RAS is primarily employed for smolt production, but it is also utilized for cultivating fully grown fish for harvesting. A well-maintained biofilter is essential in ensuring optimal water quality for the fish. This filter prevents the accumulation of waste substances from the fish and feed, thus preventing potential harm to the fish.
